Opera Holland Park Summer Season 2024

Surrounded by the beautiful formal gardens and wilded woodlands of Holland Park, the canopied open-air auditorium of Holland Park Opera is the perfect place to enjoy critically acclaimed opera in the heart of London. For its Summer 2024 season, the urban company blended tradition with the daring to redefine opera for a modern audience.
We were involved in four of the company's productions. For Tosca, we brought to life designer Yannis Thavoris’ more modern take on the classic opera. Scena was responsible for constructing the postered back wall, stone effect header piece, shop front and return walls, portrait floor cloth and signs.
For the Barber of Seville, we built the archways, columns, wall trucks and gates. As per Neil Irish’s design, the set pieces were tied in with the Jacobean Holland Park House by incorporating the building’s colours.
With Opera Holland Park's double bill performances, we built the slotted walls with gold paintwork detailing for Il Segreto di Susanna from an existing design by Takis. These were then turned and reset during the interval to reveal the cleverly integrated design on the reverse, with posters and graffiti detailing, alongside a ‘bombed’ broken railway track and debris which complete the set for Pagliacci, designed by Bridget Kimak.
Finally for the production of Acis & Galatea, we made the pivoting folly, broken archways, and long meadow grass ‘tufts’ for this whimsical design by Alyson Cummins.
