Scena has helped JOHNN Design to realise its vision for the CBS Sports' coverage of UEFA's recent Champions League and Europa League finales, working to create a multi-purpose installed at IMG Studios, Stockley Park that could switch between each competition.
Scena was awarded the role of principal contractor for the permanent Kings and Scribes exhibition in Winchester Cathedral's South Transept. Designed by Metaphor and spanning three floors, the installation features included; glass wall graphics, showcases, models, high quality display furniture, and both mechanical and audio visual interactive exhibits.
The South Transept of Winchester Cathedral has recently undergone a major facelift, as with buildings of this nature, the renovation was to an exceptionally high-standard. It was therefore, especially important that we upheld these standards in the making and installation of the exhibition. Using our skilled craftsmen and high-quality premium oak Scena achieved the level of finish demanded by Metaphor Design and the Cathedral.
Scena was commissioned to produce all setworks and joinery and also contracted to supply lighting, audio visual hardware, showcases, interactive exhibits, specialist glass work and graphics. We coordinated all elements to the programme and budget required. With the Cathedral fully operational throughout the installation period, we worked alongside the client's project management to ensure the installation programme worked within the Cathedral's busy schedule, including Christmas and Easter services.
With the Season 3 Premiere of Netflix's huge hit The Crown taking place in London's Curzon Mayfair cinema, we were tasked by AD Events to bring a taste of royalty to welcome the show's stars.
At our South London workshops we faithfully recreated the famous columns and gates of Buckingham Palace, creating a living wall to support the columns and logos needed to maximise photo opportunities. We assembled the installation in our setting-our department, before deconstructing, delivering to site and reassembling on the day of the premiere.
We were tasked by Thinkwell Group to provide a hardware solution for the installation of an LED mesh behind a custom printed glow fabric for Warner Bros and its Making of Harry Potter tour. Comprising of two 5m x 42m murals, including a 9m long radiused section, the installation is at 10m above floor level.
We provided steel frames and used our structural expertise to ensure the project was completed and brought to life in the one-week installation window. Also installing the large printed cloths, we devised a bespoke tensioning system to ensure the perfect image was delivered and maintained.
Using Corian solid surface materials for the desk and printed graphics on the floor and flats, this set for BBC Sport's coverage of the World Athletics Championship in Doha really stood out. We flat packed the set and shipped via air freight, re-assembling it in the Khalifa International Stadium.
We were selected by Unit 9 to work alongside it on Bentley Motors’ ‘The Future of Extraordinary Journeys’ EXP 100 GT Live Event at the company’s headquarters in Crewe.
Our team of 30 tradesmen transformed the Bentley showroom over a period of 10 days supplying and installing a raised floor incorporating a fully automated revolve, an overhead lighting canopy with stretched ceilings, automated LED reveal doorway and scenic themed areas to showcase Bentleys’ Motors journey into the future.
Over a three day period, Major League Baseball (MLB) took over The Truman Brewery in London’s trendy Shoreditch to celebrate all things baseball with the 'London Yards' festival experience that we delivered.
London Yards is part of MLB's London Series and took place over the same weekend as the Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees games at London’s Olympic Stadium. Guests were invited to immerse themselves into the world of all things Baseball, ranging from dining on food native to New York, playing various games to challenge their stateside skills and partying with other fans as they take in performances from top international star DJ’s and musicians, and of course a live stream of the big game on the stage LED screen.
Special guest stars such as cricketer Alex Hales and world champion football freestyler Lady Liv Cooke were in attendance to take on the Home Run Derby. With Live streaming on social networking platforms, the head-to-head VIP competition had over 1.3 million people watching from all over the world.
All visitors were able to pick up a bat and ball and try their hand at one of the four immersive batting games, and they were also able to watch the Red Sox vs Yankees game on a big screen while sipping on beer and eating 'ballpark' food.
We were recently asked to supply scenery for Andrew Lloyd Weber’s latest West End show, the 50th anniversary production of Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. We were able to fabricate and pre-assemble all the scenic elements at our Croydon facility so they could be viewed by the creative team prior to installation at the Palladium Theatre.
The upstage corners of the floor swept upwards and in the centre was a multi-layered lift creating the raised Dias piece. All elements of the floor were pre-fabricated at our workshops and assembled in one of our setting-out shops. Our in-house scenic art team then went about adding the colourful painted design created by designer Morgan Large.
Other elements created included the jail piece, the textured upstage ground row and moving pyramids. All these scenic components combined to make one of the most visually exciting shows that the West End has seen in a long while.
We were challenged with modifying the existing display at BBC Sport's Media City studio into a light box. Using a 4m x 1.3m polycarbonate with graphics, the installation took five days using four Scena crew and three specialist LED technicians.
We were commissioned to craft and construct the welcome feature for the European premiere of Dumbo, taking place at the Curzon Cinema in London's Mayfair. Using our setting out area, we constructed the display before installing the feature.
We were commissioned to create a three-piece set for the movie premiere, re-creating the house from the movie outside the Royal Albert Hall. We also had to create four smaller versions of the house, used to surround LED screens that went either side of the steps leading up to the main stage.
The third part of this build was the main gates and movable wall, consisting of specialised columns fabricated by us along with flat walls to create an entrance for the cast to enter the blue carpet. The movable wall had an LED light box built inside to illuminate the movies title and was sat on a platform with casters attached, for manoeuvrability.
The project pushed us to find innovative ways to create these set pieces so that we would be able to assemble on-site in the time frame allowed.
We created a popup for the launch of LG's paper-thin Signature TV, working overnight to install the display in London's Spitalfields Market.
We worked with Hill+Knowlton Strategies to create a dazzling, summer-themed pop-up in the midst of London's winter for utility company E.ON. Erected overnight, the Shot of Summer delivered a cheery, heated, summer-in-winter bubble where visitors could kick-back on deck chairs, munch on party foods or play games.
The sunny atmosphere of the space provided the perfect setting for E.ON to have friendly and relaxed conversations with customers (and non-customers) about everything from tariffs to renewables.

We recently completed our first installation of a brand-new outside broadcast studio, available for hire, for the BBC's coverage of the European Championships in Glasgow's George Square.
Designed with excellent noise reduction values and to be fitted and sealed in one day with minimal crew, the modular units use the latest acoustic materials and offer an integrated grid with very high weight loadings. The units can be pre-set at Scena workshops allowing for the scenery to be assembled for even faster on-site build-time and allowing for more detailed sets to be created.
The BBC used three modular units as the centre of coverage in the events held in the city.
